iPhone and iPad

App Store only. Pencil on the iPad. Keyboard when the paragraph gets long.

WPS Office on iOS is a single App Store app for iPhone and iPad. Kingsoft typically keeps the build aligned with Apple’s last two major system versions. Gizmodo’s August 2026 directory put the listing near 4.8 stars from about 17.8 thousand votes. This page is the independent setup note, not the store screenshot.

Install from the listing, then stop hunting

The official App Store application ID is 609397708. Use apps.apple.com/app/id609397708 or the button on wps.com/download that routes to Apple. Safari popups, “enterprise profiles,” and TestFlight links from strangers are not an alternative store. They are an invitation to install a different binary. This handbook will not describe those paths.

Apple’s review process is not a magic shield, but it is a better filter than a random IPA. Keep automatic updates on. If a week of one-star reviews appears after a release, wait a build. Store stars move. Gizmodo’s August 2026 snapshot — about 4.8 from roughly 17.8k votes — is a popularity snapshot, not a promise that your iPad generation is crash-free.

Which iPhones and iPads still count

Kingsoft, like most large iOS developers, typically supports the latest two major iOS and iPadOS versions. That is a moving window. If your device is stuck on an iOS release Apple no longer lets the App Store target, the listing will say the app is not available. There is no safe “old IPA” workaround worth describing. Use a web editor on a computer or accept Pages and Numbers for local files.

iPhone is the glance-and-comment device: open a DOCX from Mail, fix a typo, sign a one-page PDF, scan a whiteboard. iPad is the real second computer. The iPad build advertises Apple Pencil and multi-window editing. Split View with Mail plus Writer is the campus pattern. Stage Manager on a supported iPad is usable for two documents; it is not a 27-inch iMac. If you write for hours, add a keyboard case. Thumbs are not a thesis input method.

Pencil, markup, and what still belongs on a Mac

Apple Pencil shines on PDF comment, slide sketching, and signing. It does not make a phone-sized ribbon comfortable for mail merge. Complex tracked changes, mail merge, and heavy Spreadsheet models still belong on macOS or Windows. The iPad can start the file. The desktop should finish the file if layout is contractual. Export a PDF and reopen it in another viewer before you submit. That habit is the whole compatibility lesson in one sentence.

Files stored in iCloud Drive, Files, or a school MDM container can be opened in WPS if the file provider allows it. A WPS account is only required for Kingsoft cloud and continue-on-PC. Free cloud is about 1 GB. Students who already live in iCloud can skip WPS Cloud entirely. Teachers collecting homework should still prefer the LMS. See students and teachers.

Free tier, in-app purchase, and subscription fatigue

Writer, sheets, slides, and a PDF reader work without paying. Ads and upgrade tiles appear. OCR, extra templates, advanced PDF tools, and extra cloud are the usual paid walls. Official 2026 pricing on wps.com listed a free Standard tier, Pro+ around $5.83 a month on the monthly card or less when billed annually, and a Sharing plan near $2.49 per user per month. Apple’s in-app prices can differ by region and tax. Confirm in the App Store product page and on wps.com before you tap Subscribe. Family Sharing rules depend on how Kingsoft coded the IAP; do not assume one Pro+ seat covers every iPad in the house. Read free versus Premium.

WPS AI on iOS has the same duty as on desktop: daily limits on Pro+, and you verify every citation and number. Do not paste exam answers you are supposed to write yourself, and do not paste confidential student data into a cloud model. That is academic integrity plus policy, not a feature request.

Files app, default readers, and living next to Pages

iOS lets you pick a default document app only in limited ways. You will still long-press files and choose WPS, Pages, or Word. That is fine. Use Pages when the document will never leave Apple’s world. Use WPS when the other party is a Windows office that lives in DOCX. Use Microsoft 365 when the school issued you a seat and Outlook. Our compare page does not pretend one app wins every week.

If you uninstall WPS, documents you saved into the app’s private container can be deleted with the app. Documents in Files or iCloud remain. Export first. The Windows leftover path %AppData%\kingsoft does not apply. The uninstall article is still useful if your household also runs the PC suite and suddenly Word lost its file associations.

Languages, shortcuts, and a calm first hour

UI languages include English, Indonesian, German, Spanish, French, Thai, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Japanese, and more. Switch in the app settings if the store locale guessed wrong. Details on the languages page. Hardware keyboard shortcuts follow the Mac pattern (Command+B and friends) more than the Windows pattern. See shortcuts.

  1. Install from the official App Store ID only.
  2. Open one DOCX and one PDF from Files.
  3. Try Pencil on a PDF if you have an iPad.
  4. Skip the account if iCloud already holds your work.
  5. Decide on Pro+ after a week, not during first-launch tiles.
