Official channels only

Download WPS Office without wandering into mirror-site roulette.

Kingsoft’s product is free to install. The risk is fake download buttons. Use the vendor site, Microsoft Store, Google Play, or the App Store. This page maps each channel and what you actually get.

Why we refuse to host the installer

WPS Office is proprietary software. Redistributing the EXE, DMG, Deb, or APK from this domain would be the wrong kind of helpful. It also trains people to trust random files named WPS-Office-Setup-2026.exe. Security researchers have documented real-world update-channel abuse against office software. Your first defense is boring: only fetch builds from Kingsoft or the platform stores.

Website installer versus Microsoft Store

The Microsoft Store product 9NSGM705MQWC is a legitimate Kingsoft listing for Windows. Store apps update through Windows, which some schools prefer. The website installer is what most power users want: the full desktop suite on wps.com/download. If two Store tiles appear, read the publisher — it must be Kingsoft Office Software Corporation Limited.

Gizmodo’s August 2026 directory listed the suite as freeware with Play Store ratings around 4.5 from nearly six million votes and App Store ratings around 4.8. Treat store stars as a popularity signal, not a lab certification. A high rating does not make a random APK safe.

What free means on day one

You can write documents, build sheets, and design slides without paying. Ads are common on free skins. PDF conversion, OCR, extra templates, and cloud above about 1 GB are the usual upgrade nags. Walk through free vs Premium before you enter a card. Official 2026 pricing on wps.com listed a free Standard tier, Pro+ around a few dollars a month when billed annually, and a sharing plan near $2.49 per user per month. Prices move; confirm on the buy page.

Checksums, SmartScreen, and antivirus

Windows SmartScreen may warn on a freshly signed installer. Confirm the publisher and that the URL still shows wps.com. Several crash reports are over-eager firewalls blocking the updater. Add WPS to an allowlist only after you verified the source. If an antivirus flags a file from a blog download button, delete it. Do not “allow anyway.”

First-run checklist

  1. Create a WPS account only if you want phone–PC sync. Local files do not require one.
  2. Set default apps for DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, and PDF so Windows does not surprise you later. See file associations.
  3. Turn off optional cloud backup on the system drive if disk space is tight. Cache can quietly fill C:. See clear cache.
  4. Skip WPS AI until you have a real task. Daily limits and paid walls are easier to judge after a week of ordinary writing.
  5. Export one important file as PDF and reopen it in another suite. That is the compatibility test that matters.

Mobile and Linux notes

Android users should install from Google Play, not a third-party APK site. iPhone and iPad users should stay on the App Store listing. Linux users should prefer Kingsoft’s current Deb or RPM over four-year-old community packages. Fonts that look fine on Windows often collapse on Ubuntu until you add a symbol font pack. That is a fonts problem, not a broken download.
